The Plot

Written and directed by the Wachacowskis, The Matrix is the first film in a trilogy starring Keanu Reeves. This film begins in 1999, following protagonist computer program Thomas Anderson, also known as “Neo” to the hacking community. His curiosity in “The Matrix” catches the attention of Morpheus, leader of a secret human-led resistance group against the matrix. Morpheus then offers Neo the choice: a red pill to uncover the truth about the Matrix or a blue pill to return to the Matrix and his normal life. Neo takes the red pill and is pulled out of the Matrix, learning that the year was actually 2199 and that he and all other humans had been living within mechanical pods while their minds were in an AI simulation. Now Neo and the crew of the hovercraft Nebuchadnezzar are on the run from agents of the matrix who wish to preserve the matrix and take down the resistance group. Along the way, Neo visits the Oracle, another AI, to find out if he was, “the One,” a prophesied human set to take down the Matrix. From there, Neo and Morpheus work to fight the agents of the Matrix. By the end of the film it becomes clear that Neo actually is the One and that he is able to manipulate the Matrix with his mind.
